By: Joseph T. Burns
On January 24, the bipartisan Election Commissioners Association of the State of New York released its state legislative agenda for 2025. Included in the ECA’s 2025 agenda are:
- Support for legislation exempting all contests for party positions from manual recounts;
- Support for legislation reducing the recount trigger from 0.5% to 0.25%;
- Support for making Election Day a non-attendance day for public school students;
- Support for legislation giving local Boards of Elections (BOEs) flexibility in determining hours of operation; and
- Support for legislation allowing non-statewide candidates to be designated as candidates for nomination through a party committee vote.
The full 2025 ECA legislative agenda can be accessed here.
We will continue to monitor the progress of these and other proposals under consideration by the New York State Legislature and provide updates when appropriate.
