Holtzman Vogel, a nationally recognized law firm specializing in political law, regulatory law and litigation, announced today that William M. Klimon and Patrick Sternal have joined the firm, strengthening the firm’s deep bench of talent in the Non-Profit and Tax-Exempt Organizations and Political Law practice groups. Both will be based in the firm’s Washington, D.C. headquarters.

“Bill and Patrick’s combined experience is a major addition to our firm, making Holtzman Vogel the strongest choice for the nation’s most prominent private foundations, public charities, and advocacy organizations,” said Jill Holtzman Vogel, firm founder and Managing Partner. “We continue to expand the tax practice to meet client’s growing demands for comprehensive solutions and high-level expertise.”

Klimon, joining the firm as Partner, has advised over 700 nonprofit organizations on a range of issues, including many complex nonprofit affiliations, corporate structures, and transactions. Prior to joining Holtzman Vogel, he was senior counsel at Compass Legal and was a member of the tax-exempt organizations group at Caplin & Drysdale for more than two decades. He is a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a judicial clerk to the Honorable Raymond G. Thieme, Jr. at the Court of Special Appeals in Maryland. Klimon earned his LL.M. in Taxation from the Georgetown University Law Center, a J.D. with honors from the University of Maryland School of Law, and a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania.

“Holtzman Vogel’s stellar reputation of serving clients in the political law space made the firm a natural fit for Patrick and me,” said Klimon. “We look forward to collaborating with the firm’s incredibly talented team to deliver the best possible outcomes for our clients.”

Sternal joins Holtzman Vogel as Of Counsel, bringing nearly 20 years of experience with tax-exempt, nonprofit clients. Before joining the firm, he was counsel at Compass Legal, after serving nearly ten years as an Attorney Advisor at the IRS Office of Chief Counsel, Exempt Organizations and a Tax Law Specialist in the IRS Office of Exempt Organizations, Ruling and Agreements. Sternal has an LL.M. in Taxation from Loyola Law School, a J.D. from Ave Maria School of Law, and a B.A. from Thomas Aquinas College.

Klimon and Sternal are the latest additions to Holtzman Vogel’s growing team. Most recently, the firm announced the addition of former top Department of Justice official, Kellen Dwyer, and former Federal Election Commission Advisor to Chair Sean J. Cooksey, Austin Graham. Prior to that, the firm welcomed six attorneys across its Arizona, New York, Virginia, and Washington D.C. offices.
