NYS Board of Elections Approves Changes to Voter Registration Form
By: Joseph T. Burns
At a February 25, 2025, meeting, the Commissioners of the New York State Board of Elections (NYSBOE) voted to alter New York State’s voter registration form to reflect recent changes to the Election Law.
In 2023, the state legislature approved early mail voting. After a lengthy court battle, the Court of Appeals upheld the constitutionality of early mail voting in 2024.
Prior to the recent change by the NYSBOE, New York’s voter registration form allowed voters to mark a box requesting an application for an absentee ballot. The change made by the NYSBOE commissioners alters this part of the voter registration form to allow voters to request an application for an absentee or early mail ballot.
