New York State Senate Elections Committee to Meet and Consider Eleven Bills

By: Joseph T. Burns

The New York State Senate Elections Committee is scheduled to meet for the first time this year on Monday, February 10, and consider eleven bills.  Among the proposals under consideration by the committee are:

  • A bill (S.570) to allow the commissioners of the State Board of Elections, by majority vote, to remove a county elections commissioner;
  • A bill (S.699) to reorganize the New York City Board of Elections and establish new appointment processes for commissioners of the New York City BOE as well as the executive director of the New York City BOE; and
  • A bill (S.2050) to establish that all county commissioners of elections are to be elected for terms of four years.

In addition to considering these and eight other bills, the Senate Elections Committee will hear a presentation from Ulster County Election Commissioner John Quigley, an invited guest of Sen. Mark Walczyk, the Ranking Member of the Committee.

We will continue to monitor these and other proposals under consideration by the New York State Legislature and provide updates when appropriate.
