New York Senate and Assembly Committees to Consider Election Bills

By: Joseph T. Burns

On February 25, 2025, the Elections Committee of the New York State Senate and the Election Law Committee of the New York State Assembly will each meet to consider a number of election-related proposals.

Among other bills, the Senate Elections Committee will take up:

  • A bill (S2541) giving the public the ability to obtain electronic images of cast ballots;
  • A bill (S2543) establishing a new means of notifying voters of upcoming elections and the candidates running in those elections.

At this time, both of these proposals are one-house bills.

The Senate Elections Committee and the Assembly Election Law Committee will both consider a bill (A5834/S5101) to alter the early voting period for the scheduled April 29, 2025, special election to be held in the City of New York.  This change in the early voting schedule is being sought to accommodate voters who observe the upcoming Easter or Passover holidays.

We will continue to monitor these and other proposals under consideration by the New York State Legislature and provide updates when appropriate.
